大型の台風が通り過ぎた昨日から金沢は気温が急に下がり、最高23度、最低気温は16度と初秋の肌寒さになりました。
前日まで真夏日を記録するほど暑かったため高低差に驚きますが、もう秋のお彼岸の時期に入っています。
昔から暑さ寒さも彼岸までといい、残暑も秋の彼岸までには和らぐという感覚が共有されてきたように思います。
今年は9/20が彼岸入りでしたので、石川県で急に気温が下がったタイミングと見事に一致しています。
残暑が和らいだと言うよりは、急に寒くなったというのが本当のところで、歓迎されない変化だったかもしれません。
秋の彼岸といえばこの時期を代表する花に彼岸花があげられます。
中秋の季語にもなっており、別名曼珠沙華とも呼ばれる独特な姿形の花です。
白や黄色など他の色もあるそうですが、一般的には毒々しいほど赤い反り返った花弁で印象深い花と言えるのではないでしょうか。
埼玉県の日高市に巾着田（きんちゃくだ）と呼ばれる曼珠沙華の名所があり、周囲を高麗川という清流が流れ、一面に群生する曼珠沙華は幻想的ですらあります。
秋のお彼岸のころ咲き、すぐに枯れる花ですが、その短命さと強い色彩が日本人の死生感と結びついて一種独特の印象を与える花です。
